Cash management is the paramount loss prevention issue for virtually all commercial enterprises, making the cash register or point-of-sale system the most vulnerable sector of most operations.
Through a POS Interface Device, Nationwide Video & Security can superimpose your POS receipt information onto the video images of the cash register, creating searchable video/register tape files that provide unequivocal evidence of all transaction activities.
In order to understand how POS interfacing can help your business, it’s important to understand how Nationwide Video is able to interface with your existing or new POS system.
The Nationwide POS Interface system provides a video serial interface to your existing or new POS system. A Video Serial Interface allows characters to be inserted into the Nationwide DVR via an RS-232 link. There are options to connecting the information to your DVR. Most popular is by connecting the computers, cash registers, and any RS-232 communicating device (i.e., your POS system), you can display alphanumeric characters in the video picture of the Nationwide DVR.
In order to interface with your particular POS system, the Nationwide POS Interface system is offered in a variety of RS-232 configurations. For registers and POS systems with an existing and open RS-323 port, the Nationwide POS Interface system is able to directly connect to the register through various synchronizing connections.
Some registers utilize an RS-232 printer which can be tapped to supply the Nationwide POS Interface system with the data. Finally, many low end and older registers do not have RS-232 ports available. In situations where an RS-232 update board is available from the system vendor, Nationwide Video can obtain and install the RS-232 board as a part of the installation process.
For registers that have no RS-232 ability, Nationwide Video has the capability to install a universal interface module that converts register or POS system printer data to the RS-232 format required by the Nationwide Video POS Interface system.
Every register is slightly different, and thus the interface technique is unique to every model of register and POS system in order to optimize the overall performance of the system.

Once the Nationwide Video POS system is interfaced with the register or POS system, it will automatically record all register activity onto the Nationwide Video DVR. The digital transfer is a simple process. Once a transaction is started, data is generated and sent to the Nationwide Video POS system from the cash register or POS system.
The Nationwide Video POS system overlays this data on top of the normal camera picture and also sends a sensor signal that activates the Nationwide Video DVR. This provides two benefits. First, the Nationwide Video POS system links the data with the picture. On the monitor screen you will see not only the cashier and the product being sold, but also the price charged by the clerk for that product. This allows visual comparison of the physical items being entered into the register and the actual register data of the transaction overlaid on the video picture.
With all these elements recorded on the DVR, management can review the scene and, with one view, verify the legitimacy of the transaction.
